Over 47,000 people visit Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum during Tet

Nearly 47,500 visitorsoffered incense and paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleumduring the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday from February 2-10.

Of the figure, over 16,900 were foreigners.

During the most important annual festival in Vietnam, peopleoften commemorate their ancestors and those who rendered great services to thenation.

President Ho Chi Minh was born on May 19, 1890 in Kim Liencommune, Nam Dan district, the central province of Nghe An. He devoted all ofhis life to the national liberation cause while tirelessly striving for peaceand progress in the world. 

He led the nation to success in the struggle for nationalindependence and in establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now theSocialist Republic of Vietnam) following the August Revolution in 1945. ThePresident passed away on September 2, 1969.

The President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, opening to the public onAugust 29, 1975, is an important landmark of Hanoi capital city and standsintegrated to the political and social history of Vietnam.
