ASOSAI 14 to foster links amongst supreme audit institutions

Thehosting of the Asian Associations of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI)’s 14thAssembly will not only contribute to promoting the image of Vietnam, butalso give the State Audit of Vietnam (SAV) a good opportunity to forge linkswith ASOSAI member supreme audit institutions, said Auditor General Ho DucPhoc.

Speaking at a pressconference in Hanoi on September 17, Phoc, who is also head of ASOSAI 14’sorganising board, stressed that the event will help promote informationexchange and collaboration in personnel training in the auditing field betweenthe SAV and its peers in the ASOSAI community. 

The ASOSAI Assembly, whichis held every three years, is the venue for all heads of ASOSAI member supremeaudit agencies to discuss and decide on major issues, necessary documents,regimes, and policies to achieve the association’s objectives and further itsdevelopment, Phoc said. 

It will also serve as aforum for sharing experience in the field of state audits, he noted. 

Through the event, the SAVwill also learn from the experiences and strengths of audit institutions in developedcountries, thus taking measures to improve its role and ability in the time tocome.

This year’s event, under thetheme “Environmental Auditing for Sustainable Development”, will be the largestASOSAI gathering to date, and is due to be held in Vietnam for the first time.Its main events will take place on September19, 20, and 22 in Hanoi. Sidelineevents will be arranged on September 17th, 18th, and 21stin the capital city and the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh.

It will be attended by around250 delegates from 46 supreme audit institutions in Asian countries.Representatives from the International Organisation of Supreme AuditInstitutions (INTOSAI) and a number of other international organisations willalso be attending as observers.

The event is expected towelcome some 350 domestic guests representing the Party, State, political andsocial organisations, mass organisations, localities, universities and researchinstitutes. There will also be representatives from international organisationsand embassies of foreign countries in Vietnam. 

Selecting the event’s topicon the environment is strongly supported by ASOSAI supreme audit institutions,Phoc said. 

Hosting ASOSAI 14 means thatthe SAV will become the President of ASOSAI for the 2018-2021 term andmaintains its membership on the ASOSAI governing board for the threesuccessive terms from 2015 to 2024. 

ASOSAI 14 will see theapproval of many important issues, including a report on the implementation ofthe ASOSAI Capacity Development Programme in 2015-2018 and the plan for its2018-2021 programme; as well as a budget estimate for ASOSAI 2019-2021. 

The 14th Assemblyof ASOSAI will also select the host of the 15th event, and elect thegoverning board and audit committee for the term of 2018-2021. 

It will also approve the“Hanoi Declaration” – the official document summarising the most importantworking results of the event and reflects the commitment and action of theASOSAI community for the organisation’s development objectives for the2016-2021 period, focusing on the sharing of knowledge among its supreme auditinstitutions.

The declaration will alsoaffirm the interest, efforts, and practical contribution of the ASOSAIcommunity to pursuing sustainable development goals for the world in generaland addressing global environmental challenges in particular.

The seventh symposium,themed “Environmental Auditing for Sustainable Development”, which will takeplace on September 20 and is one of the event’s most important agendas. 

To serve press activitiesduring the event, the organisation board has set up a press centre, whichoperate as a guide to all domestic and international reporters, and swiftlyprovide full information related to events and related activities.

The centre operate under theclose coordination of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), the Vietnam Television(VTV), and the Voice of Viet Nam (VOV).
