In a meeting with theInformal Ambassadors and Heads of Agencies Gender Policy Coordination Group inHanoi on June 12, Mai laid stress on Vietnam’s efforts to realise genderequality targets. Despite limitations, the implemented policies have madesignificant contributions to raising public awareness on creating equal chancesfor female workers.

The amended Labour Code willbe submitted to the National Assembly in May, 2019, she noticed, adding that itwill ensure rights of the labourers, gender equality, social welfare and theunanimity of the legal system, which are in line with international treatieswhich Vietnam has involved in.

Kamal Malhotra, Co-Chair ofthe Informal Ambassadors and Heads of Agencies Gender Policy Coordination Groupand the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Vietnam, said that hewants to study Vietnam’s stance and the promotion of gender equality in theamended labour code, especially empowerment for women, gender equality andfemale workers, harmony of the retirement age between men and women, and regulationson sexual harassment and gender-based violence at working place.

He believed that removal ofgender prejudice will help unlock women’s potential, thus improving labourquality and reducing labour shortage.
