Activities mark President Ho Chi Minh’s 128th birthday abroad

Aseries of activities held by Vietnamese communities in many countries acrossthe world to celebrate the 128th birthday of late President Ho ChiMinh (May 19).

The Vietnamese Embassy inLaos, the Vietnamese Association in Vientiane, the Vietnam Business Associationin collaboration with Thailand’s Udonthani provincial authorities organised anincense offering to the late leader at his memorial site in Udonthani, wherePresident Ho Chi Minh, with alias "Thau Chin", worked and built arevolutionary base in 1928- 1929. 

Vietnamese Ambassador NguyenBa Hung recalled great contributions made by President Ho Chi Minh to thenational independence and freedom, and happiness of the people.  

Governor of Udonthaniprovince Wathana Phutthichat expressed his honour to attend the event,affirming that the memorial site is not only to commemorate President Ho ChiMinh, but also helps enhance the friendship between Vietnam and Thailand. 

In Cuba, the VietnameseEmbassy and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) laidflowers in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his monument in Havana capitalon the same day. 

ICAP President and FernandoGonzalez Llort, and head of the Cuban National Assembly’s External RelationsCommission and President of the Cuba-Vietnam Friendship Association YolandaFerrer attended the event.

Also on the occasion, theVietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong, China, held a tour of relic sitesrelated to activities of President Ho Chi Minh when he was staying in HongKong. 

Staff members of theConsulate General, representatives from other Vietnamese offices and overseasVietnamese in Hong Kong participated in this meaningful activity.

Vietnamese Consul GeneralTran Thanh Huan said he hopes through the activity, participants have anopportunity to learn more about the life and revolutionary career of PresidentHo Chi Minh when he was in Hong Kong. 

Meanwhile in Japan,authorities of Mimasaka city, Okayama prefecture, in collaboration with theVietnamese Consulate General in Osaka hosted a ceremony to mark the 128thbirthday of President Ho Chi Minh.

The event saw theparticipation of representatives from the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association,and the Japan-Vietnam Exchange Association in Osaka and Mimasaka, theVietnamese Business Association in Japan, and the Vietnamese Associations inKansai region and Kobe city, along with crowds of overseas Vietnamese  inthe country and Japanese friends.

Speaking at the ceremony,Mayor of Mimasaka city Hagiwara Seiji highlighted President Ho Chi Minh’scontributions to peace and democracy in the world.

Mimasaka is honored to bethe first city in Japan to place a statue of President Ho Chi Minh andcelebrate his birthday, he said. 

He hoped the relationshipbetween Mimasaka and Vietnam in particular, and between Japan and Vietnam willbe stronger in the coming time. 

An art performance and aphoto exhibition on the land and people of Vietnam were also included in theprogramme.

Also the same day, stafffrom the Vietnamese Embassy, Vietnamese agencies, Vietnamese people andstudents living, working and studying in the UK gathered for a ceremony to markthe late leader’s birth anniversary.

The ceremony took place NewZealand Building, which was built on the foundation of the famous Carlton Hotelin the centre of London, where President Ho Chi Minh worked during his stay inthe UK from 1913-1917. 

In his speech at the event,Vietnamese Ambassador Tran Ngoc An expressed his respect for and gratitude toPresident Ho Chi Minh.

Chairman of the VietnameseAssociation in the UK Vuong Manh Hung and Chairman of the Vietnamese Students’Association Ngo Nam Son expressed their emotion when attending the ceremony.

Similar events were alsoorganised in Pretoria, South Africa, and Maputo, Mozambique.

Addressing the ceremony,Vietnamese Ambassador to South Africa Vu Van Dung highlighted President Ho ChiMinh’s life and revolutionary career as well as his ethics, saying that thethought, morality, personality and teachings of President Ho Chi Minh is thelight for the nation. 

Vietnamese Ambassador toMozambique Le Huy Hoang pointed out the major milestones in President Ho ChiMinh's revolutionary career and his contributions to the nation as well as tothe national liberation cause in Africa and in the world.
