Vietnamese advised to avoid nonessential travel to Indonesia

TheConsular Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recommendedVietnamese citizens to avoid nonessential travel to Indonesia as the countryhas raised the security alert status to the highest level after bomb attacks onMay 13 and 14.

After consecutive bombingattacks in East Java’s Subaraya city, the Indonesia government has allowed itscompetent forces to open fire to ensure security.

The department advisedVietnamese citizens to keep a close watch on related information. Those who arestaying in the country should avoid activities in public places until theIndonesian government announces an end to the state of emergency.

No Vietnamese citizen wasaffected in the recent bombings, according to the Embassy of Vietnam inIndonesia. 

In case of emergency, it isrecommended to contact the hotline of the Vietnamese Embassy 62811161025 and62213100358, or email or the citizen protection hotline 84981848484.

Several terrorism attacksoccurred in Indonesia over the past few days, just before the start of theRamadan month.

On May 13, three Christianchurches in Surabaya were hit by bombings, with the perpetrators identified tobe members of a family, including four children aged nine to 18.

The bombings were followedby a bomb explosion in an apartment building in East Java’s Sidoarjo town inthe evening, which killed a mother and her 17-year-old son. The father washolding a trigger to another bomb when police arrived. He was shot dead beforehe could detonate.

A family of five, includingan eight-year-old girl, conducted the suicide bombing in front of policeheadquarters in Surabaya city on May 14.
