Vietnam bags four golds at 19th Asian Physics Olympiad

The19th Asian Physics Olympiad concluded in Hanoi on May 12, with theVietnamese eight-member delegation winning four gold, two silver and two bronzemedals.

The four gold medals came toTran Duc Huy from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School in Hanoi, Nguyen Ngoc Long fromLam Son High School of the central province of Thanh Hoa, Nguyen Van Thanh Loifrom Quang Trung High School of southern Binh Phuoc province, and Trinh DuyHieu from Bac Giang High School of the northern Bac Giang province.

The rest medalists ofVietnam are from Hanoi, Thanh Hoa and northern Quang Ninh province. Huy alsowas also received the title of the host contestant with the highest results.

This year, the organizationboard presented 33 gold, 13 silver and 24 bronze medals and nine special prizesto outstanding contestants.

Assistant Prof. Hoang MinhSon, Rector of the Hanoi University of Science and Technology and head of theboard, praised the creativity, efforts and determination of the contestants.

Meanwhile, Leong Chuan Kwek,President of the Asian Physics Olympiad spoke highly of the VietnameseGovernment and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology’s coordinationand support for organising the event.

This year, the 9-daycompetition drew 188 contestants from 25 countries and territories.

In the previous competitionin Yakutsk, Russia from May 1-9, 2017, Vietnam grabbed one gold, three silvers,and three certificates of merit.
