Vietnamese, Indian defence ministers hold talks

DefenceMinister General Ngo Xuan Lich held talks with his Indian counterpart NirmalaSitharaman in Hanoi on June 13 during the latter’s official visit to Vietnamfrom June 12-15.

Minister Lich said the visitwill contribute to strengthening the traditional friendship and comprehensivestrategic partnership between Vietnam and India and promoting bilateral defencecollaboration in particular for the benefit of each country’s people and forpeace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and theworld. 

Reviewing bilateral defencepartnership over the past years, both sides reached consensus on measures toboost their ties in the near future. 

They underscored theimportance of maintaining existing cooperation mechanisms such as deputyministerial-level defence policy dialogue, meetings of the Joint Working Groupon bilateral defence cooperation, and consultations between Vietnamese andIndian officers of naval, land and air forces.

Host and guest looked intothe partnership between the two countries’ military forces, and cooperation inpersonnel training, defence industry, strategic research, post-war recovery andthe United Nations peacekeeping mission. 

They also discussed regionaland global issues of shared concern. 

During the stay, the IndianDefence Minister will attend the fourth Vietnam – India Defence IndustryBusiness Meeting and visit several units of the Vietnam People’s Army.
