PM meets Overseas Vietnamese joining Homeland Spring programme

PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a reception for a delegation of nearly 100Overseas Vietnamese returning home for the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet)festival as part of the “Homeland Spring 2018” programme.

The expats showed theirdelight at the achievements of the country in 2017 as well as their impressionof the PM and Cabinet’s great efforts and determination for nationaldevelopment.

They expressed their hope toconnect with young intellectuals at home for cooperation in producing highvalue products, while asking for the Government’s support in investing instartups of Vietnam and strengthen links with domestic firms.

Vo Quang Hue, a Vietnamesein Germany who is working for Vingroup’s automobile-making project calledVinfast, said that he hopes to make more contributions to the country byworking with Vinfast team to introduce first products in September 2018 andcalling for other Vietnamese intellectuals abroad to join hands in building thehomeland wealthily.

Extending New Year wishes tothe expats, PM Phuc briefed them on the socio-economic, defence, security andcultural achievements of the country in 2017 as well as contributions of theVietnamese community abroad.

The Government leader alsolauded efforts of the community in investing in domestic projects and sharingexperience and knowledge in various fields.

He underlined that thecountry needs the expats’ experience in developing startups, knowledge inscience, technology as well as resources for the national development.

The PM pledged that theGovernment will continue completing institutions, the legal system and policiesto create more favourable conditions for Overseas Vietnamese abroad to investin the country and develop their businesses.

He affirmed that realizingthe country’s target of becoming a “new tiger in economy”, it is necessary tostrengthen the determination of the whole country to promote national potentialand strengths as well as the solidarity of the Vietnamese community both athome and abroad.

Homeland Spring is an annualevent held by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs. This year,thousands of overseas Vietnamese have registered to participate in theprogramme which includes various traditional Tet practices. 

A special art performance isalso scheduled to be held as part of the programme on February 7 with theattendance of President Tran Dai Quang.

There are approximately 4.5million Vietnamese living and working in 103 countries and territoriesworldwide. They form an indispensable part of the nation and play an importantrole in intensifying friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the rest ofthe world.
