Vietnam concerned about escalating conflicts in Gaza: spokesperson

Vietnamkeeps a close watch on and is concerned about the escalating violence in theGaza Strip over the past days, leaving many Palestinians dead and injured, theVietnamese Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang said.

Hang made the statement inHanoi on May 15 while answering reporters’ question regarding Vietnam’sreaction to increasing conflicts in the Gaza Strip between Israeli securityforces and Palestinian people.

“Vietnam calls on theconcerned parties to exercise restraint, handle conflicts through peacefulmeasures and create favourable conditions for negotiations as well asinternational efforts to reach comprehensive, equitable and sustainablesolutions, ensuring legitimate interests of the parties, and regional peace andstability”, the spokesperson said. 

Earlier, at the open debateof the UN Security Council on April 26, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, head of Vietnam’sPermanent Mission to the United Nations, also expressed Vietnam’s concern aboutthe current Middle East situation and called on the UN Security Council touphold its important role in encouraging the resumption of peace talks betweenthe parties.

She stressed the need forall parties to respect international humanitarian law, stop any act ofhostility, incitement and violence, to ensure unimpeded access to humanitarianassistance.
