PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc meets Cambodian PM on sidelines of MRC Summit

Welcoming PM Phuc and hisentourage to Cambodia for the third MRC Summit, Cambodia PM Hun Sen said hebelieves the participation of the Vietnamese delegation will contribute to theevent’s success.

The PM Phuc, for his part,expressed his delight to visit Cambodia when Chol Chnam Thmay, the New Yearfestival of Cambodia, is approaching. He said Cambodia’s hosting of the MRCSummit and the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting in January hascontributed to raise the country’s role and position in the region.

He reiterated Vietnam’sconsistent policy in relations with Cambodia, saying Vietnam wants to continuestepping up friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia.

The two leaders said theyare pleased with the strong development of the two countries’ relations inrecent years and showed their determination to deepen bilateral ties and bringtheir partnership to a new height.

They highly appreciated thetwo countries’ signing a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement and the minutes ofthe meeting of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Committee on Land Border Demarcationand Marker Planting on the sidelines of the sixth Greater Mekong Subregion(GMS-6) and the 10th Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development TriangleSummit (CLV-10) which took place in Hanoi last week.

They agreed to maintain theexchange of high-level visits and coordinate in organising the 16th meetingof the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Committee on Economic, Cultural andScientific-Technological Cooperation in Hanoi on May 16-18.

The two PMs exchanged viewson issues of mutual concern, including border issues and Vietnamese people inCambodia. 

They consented to worktogether to settle issues related to the legal status of Vietnamese people inCambodia on the basis of Cambodian law.

PM Phuc is in Cambodia forthe third MRC Summit. He is scheduled to attend the opening session of thesummit and meet with overseas Vietnamese people in Cambodia to extend his CholChnam Thmay greetings on April 5.

This year’s MRC Summit,themed “Joint Efforts and Partnership towards Achievement of the SustainableDevelopment Goals in the Mekong”, will create an opportunity for countries toreview the operation of the MRC over the past four years and work to realisesustainable development goals. 

The first event of its kindopened in Hua Hin, Thailand in 2010 and the second one took place in Ho ChiMinh City, Vietnam in 2014.
