Cyber Command asked to safeguard national sovereignty in cyberspace

PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked the freshly-established Cyber Command tobecome a loyal, disciplinary, intelligent, and clear-headed force which isstrong enough to protect the national sovereignty in cyberspace.

With the strong developmentof science technology and the Internet and the grow-up of the fourth IndustrialRevolution, cyberspace is becoming a new “territory” holding important role ineach country’s socio-economic development, defence, security and externalrelations, Phuc said at a ceremony in Hanoi on January to announce the PrimeMinister’s decision on the establishment of the command.

In modern warfare,cyberspace is considered as the fifth combat environment which is connectedclosely with air, ground, sea and space combat. Therefore, cyber combat playsan important role in wars that use hi-tech weapons, he added.

The Government leaderrequested the Cyber Command to coordinate closely with relevant units such asthe Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Information and Communicationsto safeguard the military and defence information system as well as thenation’s important information data.

He urged the force to studyand apply advanced science technology and military tactics in cyber combat, andlearn from the world’s latest and modern achievements on information technologyand hi-tech weapons.

It is also essential totrain competent personnel so as to promote human intelligence in controllingmodern cyber weapons and step up international cooperation, he stressed.

He asked relevant units toquickly build projects to enhance cyberspace combat to submit to him forapproval and implementation.

The Cyber Command is a unitof the Defence Ministry and helps the ministry implement the State managementfunction of safeguarding the national sovereignty in cyberspace and informationtechnology.
