Vietnam, US seek stronger cooperation in energy, defence

VietnameseAmbassador to the US Pham Quang Vinh held a meeting on January 10 with USCongressman Paul Gosar who affirmed that Arizona State is willing to boostcooperation with Vietnamese localities in all fields, including energy, inorder to take advantage and supplement each other’s strengths in technology andresources.

Gosar is a representative ofthe Republican Party in Arizona State, President of the House ofRepresentatives’ Subcommittee for Energy and Mineral Resources and a member ofthe House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Both Vinh and Gosar agreedthat relations between the two countries as well as between Vietnameselocalities and Arizona State have been developing strongly and there is stilllot of potential for cooperation, especially in green and renewable energy.

Gosar recalled his soundmemories and profound impressions during his visit to Vietnam in late 2017.

Vinh said that Vietnam hopesto welcome more US congressmen, thus contributing to the development ofVietnam-US ties.

A day earlier, Vinh met withAssistant Secretary of Defence Randall Schriver. 

The two officials lauded thegrowing relationship between the two countries over the past year, especiallythe successful visit to the US by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc inMay 2017 and the Vietnam visit by US President Donald Trump and his attendancein the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in November 2017.

Vinh and Schriver shared thehope that in 2018, the two sides will continue exchanging delegations at alllevels and enhance the bilateral cooperation in various fields, includingsecurity and defence.
