Singapore issues statement on meeting of Singaporean, DPRK leaders

Singapore’sForeign Ministry on June 10  issued a press statement following themeeting between Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and leader of theDemocratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un.

The statement said at thefirst meeting between the two leaders, PM Lee welcomed Kim to Singapore.They discussed Singapore-DPRK relations, developments in the DPRK and regionaldevelopments, including the recent positive developments on the KoreanPeninsula.  

PM Lee complimented thedecision by Kim and US President Donald Trump to hold the US-DPRK Summit. Hewished Kim success at the US-DPRK Summit and expressed his hope that theUS-DPRK meeting will advance the prospects for peace and stability on theKorean Peninsula and the larger region.

Earlier, the Yonhap NewsAgency of the Republic of Korea (RoK) cited Kim as saying that if his meetingwith Trump is successfully held, Singapore's efforts will be historicallyrecognised.

Kim also expressed thanks toLee over Singapore's "provision of convenience" to the DPRK’sdelegation.

The US-DPRK Summit isscheduled to take place at 9am on June 12 (local time) at Capella Hotel onSentosa Island.
