US appreciates Singapore’s role as host of US-DPRK Summit

TheUS appreciates Singapore’s hosting of the upcoming summit between US PresidentDonald Trump and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea leader Kim Jong-unslated for June 12.

Singapore’s Foreign Ministrysaid in a press release on June 6 that Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan metwith US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor JohnBolton during his working visit to Washington, and during the meetings, the twoUS officials expressed appreciation for Singapore’s hosting of thesummit. 

Balakrishnan welcomed theupcoming visit of President Trump and the DPRK leader to Singapore andexpressed his hope that their meeting will contribute to peace and stability inthe Korean Peninsula. 

On June 5, the White Houseannounced that the US-DPRK summit would take place at the Capella Hotel inSentosa, Singapore.      

The US, the DPRK andSingapore are racing to complete the final preparations to ensure the historicmeeting will go smoothly.   

The US State Department alsosaid at a regular press briefing on June 5 that the US would not pay for DPRKofficials’ accommodations in Singapore during thesummit.        

The department’sspokesperson Heather Nauert refused to discuss the possibility that Presidentof the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in will join in the meeting between Trump andKim in Singapore. 

She only confirmed that theUS is constantly in conversation with the governments of the RoK and Japan.
