Agro-fishery-forestry exports reach 32.6 billion USD in ten months

Theagro-fishery-forestry sector earned 32.6 billion USD from exports during theJanuary-October period, up 8.1 percent year-on-year, according to the AgroProcessing Market Development Authority (AgroTrade) under the Ministry ofAgriculture and Rural Development.

The export of key farm producehit 16.4 billion USD, 2.3 percent higher than that of the same time last year.Meanwhile, earnings from aquatic, husbandry, and forestry products wereestimated at 7.24 billion USD, 0.46 billion USD, and 7.6 billion USD; rising6.2 percent, 9.5 percent, and 16.3 percent, respectively.

Over the 10-month period,Vietnam pocketed 2.6 billion USD from shipping 5.2 million tonnes of riceabroad, an increase of 1.7 percent in volume and 14.1 percent in valueyear-on-year.

Strong growth in rice exportrevenue was seen in Indonesia, Iraq, the Philippines, and Malaysia. 

Exports of cassava alsoexhibited good performances, with 1.92 million tonnes sold at 739.6 millionUSD, down 9.78 percent in quantity but up 16.1 percent in value compared to thesame period in 2017.

Coffee export revenue regainedstrength after a time of steep fall. About 1.57 million tonnes of coffee weresold in foreign countries at 2.98 billion USD in the reviewed period, ayear-on-year increase of 21.3 percent in volume and 0.9 percent in value. 

Regarding vegetables andfruit, Vietnam exported around 3.3 billion USD worth of products, hiking 15.5percent year-on-year.

In contrast, decline in exportrevenue was seen in pepper (33.4 percent), rubber (7.3 percent), and tea (7.7percent).

The AgroTrade said that fromthe outset of the year, the country splashed out 25.72 billion USD onagro-fishery-forestry imports, 11.1 percent higher than the amount in the sametime in 2017.
