E-commerce: Rapid development and numerous challenges in management

E-commerceis a "fertile land" in the current market and promisingly developsfurther in the coming time. According to enterprises, e-commerce has never beena bad business idea if it is in the right direction but it also poses numerouschallenges for state management agencies.

E-commerce includes businessactivities of trade, purchase, payment, advertisement and delivery using such electronicmeans as telephone, television and internet.

In Phu Yen, numerousenterprises have set up websites to introduce products and trade withcustomers. Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoc, Director of Huy Ngoc Co., Ltd in Tuy Hoa citylets known: My company has operated for 4 years so far and also used website tointroduce products to customers. In my opinion, it is very necessary to set upa website to serve business in the era of information technology development nowadays.All the company's products are advertised on the website and 60% of them aresold via this channel.

Statistics of the Departmentof Industry and Trade show that about 70% of enterprises in Phu Yen know aboute-commerce and 50% of them conduct e-commerce trade through contracts withconsumers or among enterprises. The e-commerce index of Phu Yen ranked 45th in2015 and 41st out of 63 provinces and cities in the country in 2017.

"In order to encourageenterprises to apply e-commerce into their business activities, in the pasttime, the department has coordinated with the E-commerce Development Center tosupport more than 40 enterprises to set up websites with their own domain name,nearly 20 enterprises to participate in the national E-commerce trading floor and2 enterprises to upgrade online payment application on website.

Thereby, it helps enterprisespromote their brands and give business information to partners in and out ofthe country; supporting enterprises to participate in Online Shopping Day(OnlineFriday.com) every year. The department has also set up the provincial e-commercetrading floor and instructed enterprises to promote their products to exchangeand trade with partners and customers”, said Mrs. Nguyen Thi Kim Bich, DeputyDirector of the Department of Industry and Trade.

According to experience of Mr.Nguyen Huy Ngoc, with characteristics of trade via the internet, buyers andsellers do not directly meet each other, hence maybe causing problem that peopletake advantage of e-commerce to carry on business of counterfeit and goods withbad quality, damaging the economy and affecting belief of consumers.

Enterprises have suggestedintroducing activities of selling via social network and providing cross-borderservices to the regulation scope of the Decree No. 52/2013 to create fairnessamong different types of businesses. Simultaneously, it is necessary to have amechanism and behavior rules to settle disputes arising in e-commercetransactions in order to ensure legitimate interests of both buyers andsellers, hence contributing to developing the e-commerce market sustainably in Vietnam.
