Transport sector targets 8-9 percent growth in 2018

The transport sectoraims to transport 8-9 percent more passengers and cargo this year compared to2018, heard a conference in Hanoi on January 11.

According to Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Ngoc Dong,the sector also aims to complete its public investment plan in the year withtotal estimated disbursement of nearly 29 trillion VND. 

Additionally, more efforts will be made to minimise thenumber of traffic accidents, deaths and injuries by between 5-10 percentcompared to 2018; and reduce traffic jams in big cities. 

Dong said the ministry has devised various solutions torealise the targets, including completing and submitting to the Government aproposal on revisions to the Law on Road Traffic, and the assessmentof the enforcement of the Law on Vietnam Civil Aviation. 

It will focus on finalizing a project to restructuretransport and enhance connectivity among different means of transport, increasethe use of technology in managing transport and implement an action plan toimprove the competitiveness of logistics services. 

Meetings and dialogues with transport enterprises andcooperatives will be held, while the ministry will also devise measures tosettle difficulties facing enterprises in the field. 

Attention will be paid to the disbursement of capital fornational key transport projects, and accelerating the implementation of urbanrailway, expressway and airport projects, especially the Long Thanh airport andthe expansion of Tan Son Nhat airport in the southern region. 

More efforts will be employed to handle problems in theprocess of collecting fees for build-operate-transfer (BOT) projects and speedup the implementation of non-stop automatic toll collection systems.
