Aquatic export surges in January

Fisheryexport value amounted to 560 million USD in the first month of 2018, up 15.6percent from the same period last year.

Also in January, Vietnamimported 151 million USD worth of aquatic products, an annual increase of 55.8percent.

According to the Ministry ofAgriculture and Rural Development, fishing activities are in its high time ofthe year, with Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, and Khanh Hoa harvesting approximately 690tonnes of tuna fish during the month.

In the domestic market,prices of Tra fish materials in the Mekong Delta region remained at highlevels, ranging between 27,000 and 29,000 VND per kg due to supply shortage.The situation is unlikely to change soon, as export is brisk while supplysources expand only marginally. 

The prices of shrimp areprojected to follow an upward trend compare to the last month of 2017 thanks toincreases in consumer and factory’s materials demand.

The US, Japan, China, andthe Republic of Korea were top four importers of Vietnamese aquatic productslast year, together accounting for 55 percent of the country’s total fisheryexports.
