Fastgrowth is a condition for sustainable development, Deputy Prime Minister VuongDinh Hue said at a symposium in Hanoi on June 10.

Amid the Fourth IndustrialRevolution (Industry 4.0), Vietnam can easily lag behind if it does not developrapidly, he said at the event, which saw the presence of Chairman of theTheoretical Council of the Party Central Committee and Director of the Ho ChiMinh National Academy of Politics Nguyen Xuan Thang, representatives of centralsectors, and scientists.

The symposium, held by theVietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS), discussed solutions to reinforce andcreate the basis for fast and sustainable development in the new context inVietnam.

Director of the VASS’sCentre for Analysis and Forecast Nguyen Thang said to capitalise onopportunities and minimise challenges in Industry 4.0, the country needs toaddress major issues, including ensuring that regulations are updated to pavethe way for new technologies and modes of production to be applied in life. Itshould promote skills update amid the technology race and solve outstandingsocio-economic and environmental problems.

It is also critical forVietnam to learn experience of other countries, especially those taking thelead in Industry 4.0, he added.

Dang Kim Son, formerspecialist at the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and RuralDevelopment under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, said tosuccessfully become an industrialised nation, Vietnam needs to boost the roleof agriculture and rural areas in industrialisation, application of scientificand technical advances in the reality, and connection with urban areas so as topromote the quality and sustainable values of the economy.

Other participants at theevent also stressed the necessity for openness and transparency to achieve fastand sustainable growth.
