Start-up agriculture campaign launched in Ho Chi Minh City

A start-up campaigntargeting students and youths was launched in Ho Chi Minh City on January 8, aspart of the “One Commune, One Product” programme.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Huesaid the “One Commune, One Product” programme aims to promote the applicationof modern technology in the production of local key products and building oftrademarks for them, turning them into regional and national productscapable of joining the value chain. 

Up to 30 cities and provinces have joined the programme with34,000 high-value products, contributing to local economic development and expandingexports. 

The Deputy PM asked the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union(HCYU) Central Committee, ministries, agencies, and localities to encourageyoung people to start their business via the programme, as well as introducefunding for start-up models. 

First Secretary of the HCYU Central Committee Le Quoc Phongsaid the campaign aims to raise awareness amongst the youth about the role andimportance of the rural economy and agricultural production, affording them achance to start businesses in agriculture via exchanges with successfulbusinesspeople. 

The launch ceremony for the startup campaign was co-hosted bythe HCYU Central Committee and the Ministry of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment

On May 7, 2018, the Prime Minister signed Decision No.490/QD-TTgapproving the “One Commune, One Product” programme for the 2018-2020 periodnationwide. 

The programme looks to develop typical agricultural andnon-agricultural products and services in each locality, and on the back ofprivate and collective sectors, thus limiting migration from rural areas tocities and meeting the national criteria on new rural development.
