Remakes excluded from 2017 Kite Awards’ categories

Vietnameseremakes of foreign films and scripts will not be considered for the Kite Awards– the most prestigious cinematographic awards in the country.

The information was releasedby Vice President of the Vietnam Cinema Association Nguyen Thi Hong Ngat onApril 5.

She said the current numberof remakes is enormous, and the awards will not accept nominations for thecategory. However, the awards will honour individuals involved in making thoseworks, she added.

In addition, the 2017edition of the annual awards will include two more prize categories, which arecameramen of scientific documentaries, and animators.

A total of four researchstudies and 117 films have been submitted to vie for the awards. The entriesinclude 13 feature films, 16 TV series, 13 animation films, 34 documentaries, 9scientific films, and 32 short films.

The award ceremony will takeplace at the Hanoi Opera House on April 20, and will be broadcast live on theVietnam Television VTV2 channel.

Nominated films will bescreened free for the public at the August Cinema, National Cinema Centre, andStudio for Documentary & Scientific Film in Hanoi from April 9 to 13, withinvitations given away at these places starting April 6.

On the occasion, the KiteAwards organising board also runs a conference to review the creation of filmsand series last year at the headquarters of the Vietnam Cinema Association (No51 Tran Hung Dao Street) on April 9.
